I'm not naive enough to believe that the Gore campaign at some level was not behind the leak. I'm also not naive enough to believe that if the situation were reversed, with Gore leading in the polls and the Bush people had similar goods on Gore, that they wouldn't have used it too. That's the way the game is played.

The point is that Bush knew that's the way the game is played, and IMO made a foolish mistake by not coming clean about this stuff as soon as he decided to run for president. Nobody cares that Al Gore smoked pot or that Ann Richards was a recovering alcoholic, it would have been a complete non-issue.
