Sprint said capital spending will rise 24 percent next year to $6.2
billion
, while Sprint PCS's
spending will rise 6.3 percent to $3.4 billion.

Part of the decline( eps) will result from the aggressive investments
Sprint will need to make in expanding and upgrading its various
networks to deliver high-speed broadband services. Many of those
investments were delayed over the past year in expectation that
the company would be acquired by WorldCom, a deal that unraveled amid
objections from government regulators.

Alcatel Ships Record 5 Million DSL Lines:Paris, November 6, 2000 - Alcatel (NYSE: ALA), the world leader in Digital Subscriber Line
(DSL) solutions, announced today that it shipped 1.7 million DSL central office lines worldwide
in the three month period ended September 30, 2000. Alcatel has now shipped over 5 million
central office Asymmetric DSL (ADSL) lines worldwide, another in a long list of DSL industry
'firsts' for the company. Alcatel's third quarter line shipment volume was more than 300
percent ahead of the same period last year and over 50 percent ahead of the prior quarter.

In addition, shipment of Alcatel customer premises equipment (CPE) reached nearly 500
thousand units worldwide in the third quarter, bringing Alcatel's installed base of ADSL CPE to
over 1.3 million units, surpassing the 1 million unit threshold for the first time. Alcatel provides
the broadest array of ADSL CPE solutions available in the industry including DSL modems,
routers, and integrated access devices, which can support multi-line voice and data service
over a single telephone access line. The newest member of the Alcatel CPE family, the Speed
Touch Wireless, allows DSL subscribers to enjoy high-speed DSL access from almost
anywhere within their home or business without the expense, complexity and inconvenience
of running separate fixed Ethernet links between multiple PCs and an ADSL modem.

"The ADSL market has outperformed most people's expectations in 2000, and Alcatel is sitting
in the middle of this exploding market," said Jeff Wilson, Executive Director, Infonetics,
Inc."Given their impressive customer list and future purchase commitments, it looks like
Alcatel's dominance of the ADSL CO equipment market will last indefinitely."

Alcatel defines a central office DSL line shipment as the delivery of an actual central office
modem to a service provider for network deployment. Unfulfilled orders (backlog) are not
counted. This metric yields a true measure of supplier market presence and provides a more
accurate indication of supplier market share than other metrics such as 'capacity shipped',
'DSLAMS installed' and 'number of central offices', all of which can count empty slots for
modems or unused rack space. The central office line shipment measure also correlates to
the service provider community's immediate ability to support DSL subscribers.

"Alcatel has now made broadband access to the Internet a reality for over 5 million people
worldwide," said Pearse Flynn, president of Alcatel's Carrier Networking Group."When you
subscribe to an ADSL service anywhere in the world, it's more likely than not that it will be
delivered by Alcatel technology. We're delivering on our promise to capture, aggregate and
switch the vast majority of the world's broadband traffic."

About Alcatel DSL
Alcatel is the world's leading supplier of DSL solutions, helping service providers everywhere
deploy an expanded range of revenue producing offerings and applications such as high
speed Internet access, voice over DSL, and video services. Alcatel's DSL solutions are
available on a variety of service platforms, including the Alcatel 7300 and 7350 ASAM; the
Litespan NGDLC; and environmentally hardened DSLAM packages optimized for remote
terminal deployment, the Alcatel Remote Access Multiplexer (RAM) and mini-RAM. This
complete set of deployment options gives service providers the flexibility to bring DSL service
to all potential subscribers in their service areas, regardless of their network topology. A
unified element management solution, Access Management System (AMS), manages voice
and data services for the Litespan and the ASAM product family. The Alcatel 5620 Network
Manager, an integrated scalable network management solution, seamlessly manages these
products at the network and service layers. Alcatel's DSL technology is also offered in an
advanced range of customer premises equipment, the Alcatel Speed TouchTM family of DSL
modems, routers, and integrated access devices supporting multi-line voice and data service
over a single telephone access line. For more information on Alcatel's DSL solutions, visit

Steve, Market Guide provides good financial information for ALAO, except they do not consider the % ownership retained by Alcatel, in the per share valuations.
