"How about a party platform honest simple and straightforward if there such a
thing?"

Very good point Darleen. And if you want to hear some truthful honesty just pay attention to the Bush news conference where he admits to getting the DUI 24 years ago. He admits in a humble and quiet way his own responsibility for the act, and doesn't make any excuses for it.

Contrast what George W. did at that news conference with what he DIDN'T do. He DIDN'T deny that it ever happened, as Gore would surely do, and has done before (see illegal contributions from Chinese). He DIDN'T blame someone else for this situation (like the off-duty policeman, for instance), as Gore would have done. And he DIDN'T try to answer questions by changing the subject to something else he would want to talk about, as Gore would certainly have done.

I think we have seen Al Gore try to throw dirt on GW Bush and only end up providing Bush with a "golden" (see-- it's on topic) opportunity to illustrate why GW Bush will make a better President. It's one thing to talk about truth and honesty in government, but rarely have we voters had an opportunity like this to actually see a candidate demonstrate his honesty in a real-life situation.
