what damn country do you live in? calling something lame is hardly a just argument.

Criminals rarely invade homes with people in them for FEAR of being shot! That's called deterrence.

BTW, knives are still the murder weapon of choice.

you can't give a good reason why I should have to register a handgun or buy a license to own one.....if you try I'm sure it will be lame.

Before you go touting the "pacifity" of Japanese life, I suggest you look at the cost they pay with regard to civil rights.

For example, there is no "habeus corpus" law in Japan. The police can hold a suspect as long as they want, and in many cases they are quite willing to coerce a confession ou of him/her.

There is no right to an attorney, nor are there any Miranda warnings as are guaranteed under the US constitution.

There are no prohibitions against unreasonable searches and seizures, nor any "poison fruit" statutes that prevent evidence gained without probable cause from being admissable in court.

I found an interesting article on the web that discusses this very point at some length. I invite you to read it and then decide if you are willing to pay the price with regard to individual freedoms in order do secure your safer society:
