Charley, the only difference between Bush and all the other hollier-than-thou Democrats on this thread is they've never been caught drinking and driving. Practically everyone drank and drove in the mid 70's. It was as common as lighting up a cigarette in a crowded restaurant then.

It wasn't until late in the seventies, when MADD took off, that "joe Q Public", started becoming truly aware about the dangers of drinking and driving. Late in the seventies, two horrific incidents made national headlines and the tide quickly shifted toward stronger enforcement and treating it like a criminal offense.

It's hypocritical and sanctimonious to view everyone who received a DUI in the 70's as a drunk. The cultural acceptance was far different then. And only through the grace of God, do the critics of George Bush sit here and mockingly point their noses in the air, and accusing finger at his face.
