Optical Communications Closes Up 63% From Its IPO Price By Raymond Hennessey Dow Jones Newswires ...Optical Communications had some attributes that made it attractive to investors, said Ben Holmes, president of ipoPros.com, a firm in Boulder, Colo., that tracks the new issues market. Chief among them is its profitability and operating history, Mr. Holmes said. Optical Communications has been in business since 1991 and has been profitable since 1995. In the first nine months of this year, the company booked, $69.1 million in revenue, nearly three times the $23.3 million in sales reported in the comparable period of 1999. Profits grew roughly four-fold year over year, to $16.7 million from $4.2 million. "They're insanely profitable," Mr. Holmes said. "The fundamentals here are great." public.wsj.com
