ITanium is being used to prove out the architecture - and McKinley will hopefully "slide right in" and accelerate the pervasiveness of IA64 systems.

Note that McKinley is targeted at 1.2 GHz - but is STILL a 0.18 micron device.

The follow on IA64 CPU to McKinley - Madison - will be a 0.13 micron device - which should really provide a quantum leap in clock speeds - but that will be 2 or 3 years out in my estimate.

Intel has the IA64 pipeline pretty full !
