I don't believe a zealot ever loses site of his or her goal. If they did they would stop being a zealot. Your definition might be a definition for insanity- but zealots are committed, and to be committed you have to remember what you are committed too. What you are committed to need not make any sense, of course, but to be a real zealot you need that purpose.

One has zeal FOR something. I do not believe I've ever met anyone exhibiting general untargeted zeal.
