Bdog, the polls do not take into account the intensity and fervor of the Bush supporters in comparison to the somewhat lackluster support of the Gore supporters. This can only be seen and described anecdotally, but nevertheless, there is a real difference. There is a very large majority of the country, even among Gore supporters that are simply sick and tired of the cynicism and deceit that has flowed like water from Washington DC the last 8 years. Yes, this election is about issues, BUT appparently you Gore hardliners don't get out much, to see the disparity in excitement levels beween the Bush voters and the Gore supporters. Water cooler talk across the country is filled with talk of a changing of the guard, Gore can't cut it. Please feel free to bash me if Gore wins. But, truly, I don't think it will be close. Even now, Bush continues to pull away in the polls. Bush will do 5 points better than what the polls say, from the Republican intensity I describe. I think I speak for many Republicans when I say it's as much an anti-Clinton/Gore vote as it is a pro-Bush vote.
