The GOP is the party of the rich and the most unpopular corporate interests. The polluters, big oil, HMO's, tobacco, military, anything that pollutes. It's also the home of the Religious Right who have been told to shut upo and stay out of sight until after the election. It is the home of the NRA nuts and militia types. It is the party which once we finally get a surplus and start paying off the debt, the first thing they want is to give half our surplus to the rich in a gigantic re-distribution of wealth, not only adding to the debt but denying working people the chance to get crucial social services they need. The GOP drains the public schools of federal money. De-regulates polluting industries and others like S+L's. It denies environmental problems even exist. It is for rampant development and exploitation without government inference. That is really what they mean by smaller government. Less taxes for the rich and less regulation over how the rich and greedy can make fast bucks, like back in the old Wild West. Unfortunately the world has changed but the GOP hasn't. All we can hope for from Bush would be greater debt, higher interest rates, racial and class tensions, rightwing supreme court, environmental devastation and the rightwing religiou, oil and military types running our country. No thanks. Also on the personal side. Bush was an alcoholic at age 40. By that time Gore was already serving with distinction in congress. Bush's only corporation went belly up. He falsifiesd Texas school records but his real record there is crummy. He should fix that before he fixes something that isn't broken.
