GREAT NEWS FOR CAMP. am long shares.

Sprint substantially increased its capital spending plans to about $6.2 billion in 2001, well above its spending plans of $5 billion in 2000 and also higher than analysts' expectations.

Sprint's capital spending will increase at a much faster pace than its revenue growth. The higher spending comes at a time when its rivals are trying to rein in investments.

The higher spending is seen as ``indicative of the under-investment while they were in merger turmoil with WorldCom. It's obviously a burden,'' which could pressure the stock price, said Merrill Lynch analyst Megan Kulick.

More than half of the FON Group's investments next year will focus on growth and new initiatives, such as fixed wireless and Digital Subscriber Line high-speed Internet access.
