Re: 'Hiding the information comes in handy during the periods of loss of marketshare (such as now), don't you think?'

Market share information is gathered by independent analysts - IDC and Dataquest, for instance.

Re: "How much market share do you think Intel lost in the last quarter and how much market share will Intel lose in Q4?"

In fact, according to Mercury Research and as quoted in the October 30, 2000 issue of Red Herring, Intel was gaining market share as of the second quarter, while AMD was taking market share from other companies. From Red Herring:

Share of the PC Microprocessor Market(%)
2Q99 2Q00
Intel 82.0 83.2
AMD 12.0 16.0
Via-Cyrix 5.5 0.8
Other 0.5 NA

In Q3, Intel probably held close to flat market share at around 83%.

I don't think Intel will lose any.

However - if the DooWrong Mother Board and VERRRY slow take off of the 1.1 and 1.2 Gig ThumperTurds continues - and the Glitch 760 problem persists, Intel may actually gain a small amount of market share this quarter.
