1.1GHZ and 1.2GHZ Athlons in screwdriver shop ads today

It looks like wafer starts from the new stepping are now showing up in larger volume. The Sunday Chicago Tribune has a page in the business section dedicated to small display ads from local shops. I hadn't seen anything faster than 1GHZ previously - today both 1.1GHZ and 1.2GHZ systems are advertised.

I think that AMD is always very careful about new steppings (ever since the K6 yield crash), so at first they didn't target many wafers at the higher speeds. It appears that yields were good and they started to pump up the volume (of starts) 2 or 3 months ago. Those parts must now be coming into the market.

There are also Duron systems in the ads everywhere, Circuit City, Best Buy, Sears, Comp USA, Office [Max or Depot - I forgot which].
