It'd be interesting to see how much the large expansion in immigration has affected many of these problems, such as health insurance, educational costs, urban sprawl, and child hunger, such as the article below?

The growth in the general population without health insurance since 1992 roughly parallels the large increase in immigration under Clinton. This year, immigration is up about 20-25 percent YoY.

You keep alluding to this... I recommend looking at the flip side as well... ie. when a governor like Tommy Thompson, from a state like Wisconsin starts implimenting the things they are you should start to at least attempt to see where they're comming from. JMO
