I'm not saying that it is for sure a Gigabyte issue, but just that there it is possible, and it looks to me to be likely.

A more complete connection diagram would be:

AMD CPU <----> Gigabyte MB <----> AMD Chipset
Athlon <----> GA7DX <----> 761


For timing issues, the Gigabyte motherboard is definitely in the loop.
