Ravi Shanker was great in the Barron's Asia Roundtable this week. When asked about how Asian reforms are going he said:

"Let's take corporate governance, something Asia has been criticized for. I actually think Asian accounting is more transparent than that at some large-cap U.S. tech companies, like a Microsoft or a Cisco Systems. If you net out the true cost of options, their earnings are small to nonexistent. So you have options accounting issues, companies inflating earnings with investment gains, pension accounting used to support earnings. Asian companies are not quite that sophisticated. That's a good thing!"

His portion of the Roundtable is really worth reading.
