Our infant mortality rate is low because of a number of different factors not related to our overall health care system. 1. We try and save very young prenatal babies which other countries health care system would simply give up on and consider dead. 2. We have a drug and alcohol problem which causes many babies to not receive proper nutrition during their early days of pre-born life. Which is a cultural problem of lack of values, not a health care problem. When you factor these two issues into the equation we have one of the best infant mortality rates in the world. I for one, would much rather have a baby in an average American hospital, then an average hospital of any other country in the world. Certainly we can look for ways to improve our health care system. No one inferred otherwise. But when compared to the waiting lines of Europe, Canada, or the rest of the world. I wouldn't trade our health care system for any of them. By the way, yes, I have been to VA hospitals. (recently in fact). And they're not the hideous movie version ugly place you envision. One new one I visited in West Palm Beach Fla. about a year ago, was excellent. I'm sure there are many which need real improvements. And it should be addressed. But you have to keep in mind, when people are severely handicapped and mentally ill, nothing seems all that nice when compared to our healthy way of life. It seems pretty obvious to me you haven't travel very extensively. Because, you seem to adulate other nations systems of government, health care, businesses and worker rights above that of America's. You are fortunate to be living in the greatest nation on earth. And you shouldn't forget it.
