Personal liberties are probably relative- some people want the freedom to own guns, I want the freedom not to be injured by one. :-) But as a gun owner myself, I am ambivalent about how best to accomplish that.

Some people want the freedom of choice over their own bodies when they become pregnant, other people want freedom for fetuses.

I think EVERYONE wants personal liberty- it's just that most people don't want OTHER people to have personal liberty. Personal liberty for me means choosing Democrats to represent me- but I can understand that isn't so for everyone.

Pocket books are personal liberty for some people. Life is relative, and so are elections.

I could dig up a case where the justice (RenoCliton) department halted an investigation of guns shipped from China (semi automatic and I believe some fully automatic arms) that arrived in California. The BATF had been tipped off and were doing their job. This was some months ago that I learned of it, but it does illustrate that the desire to keep guns out of the hands of criminals is sort of perverted. Somebody had to profit from the import of the guns from China. Regarding gun control, I agree 100% that criminals who use guns ought to be put away for a long time. When they are in jail, they cannot harm anyone else. That dems and republicans should be able to agree on that. Problem is that jails are overcrowded with marajuana lawbreakers and illegal aliens. So, you get some real bad dudes walking the streets. If you could ship the illegals back to where the came from and had sanity for people smoking pot, you would have room for the people who use guns to commit crimes. Neither major candidate talks about that.
