Well, it's obvious that's where we part company. You can't save humans from humanity with social programs and overbearing regulation.

Oh, but while you mention it, why is Al against performance measures for schools? Is that not worthy government regulation, or is Al just trying to keep from alienating the NEA?

How about policing of campaign fundraising laws?

Your argument is for more policing of existing laws, not for the addition of volumes of new statutes and reams of new regulations. On this, I think you might be more in agreement with Republicans than you think. Republicans have been saying consistently that enforcement of existing laws is where we have to start. Campaign fundraising comes to mind as one of the first -- yet Gore calls for reform of the law, rather than enforcement of the existing law. Gosh, I wonder why?
