Ron...several years ago (about 7 or 8) I tried to find out:
1) the number of legal immigrants we can accept each year.
2) the number of illegal immigrants that come here each year.
3) the number of refugees that come here each year, I believe all come by Executive Order.

This was before wide use of Internet. Done the old fashioned way. Phone Senator and US Rep office and library work.
I found:
1) number of legal immigrants that Congress approved was about 500,000 per year.
2) number of illegal immigrants that tried to come in: hard to get an exact number, but the estimate was about double the number of legals...so about 1,000,000 per year.
3) And the big surprise to me was that NO WHERE could I find the number of refugees enter the US..different departments, etc, and usually signed by Executive Order. The estimate from one of the Senator's offices was about 4 (four)to 8 (eight) times the number of legals....so about 7-8 years ago, this number was estimated to be about 2,000,000 to 4,000,000 per year.

The bigger surprise to me was that the refugees IMMEDIATELY can sign up for Social Security, free food stamps, free housing, etc etc etc. All this while many of our older people, who have worked in this country their entire lives, and paid taxes, plus supported the country during WWII....are just a hundred or two above the welfare limit per month, and can't qualify for any government largess.

Do you, or does anyone, know of any site/s that would give more current info on the number of immigrants each year to the US?
