I would appreciate not maligning my family name, Mr. Engel. It is against the policies of this thread and any repeat will be referred to the moderator.

For the latest survey of San Diego white-box retailers, see Message 14723424

ScrewDriver shop owners - out in the streets singing the praises of the AMD ThumperTurds to all passers by !

Not exactly, people come to them by word-of-mouth and by the ComputorEdge ads. They come because they can buy exactly what they want, its cheaper and the salesmen know computers. There's 40-60 of these little and not-so-little guys selling more computers every day than Fry's, Compusa and Best Buy combined. In fact, this business is thriving so well here that CompUSA had to close one of their stores, so there are only two stores serving 2.1 million people in San Diego county.

About 1/2 to 2/3 of them advertise in ComputorEdge, from which I draw my survey. BTW, in the LA area there is a similar weekly newspaper that someone could summarize for us.

One of the larger "SD shops" is Datel. It has 3 locations, they advertise on radio and newspaper, their largest store has 10,000 sq. ft (est.)display area, and until last week NEVER advertised a store-built AMD system, at least since I moved here 4.5 years ago. When a screaming headline says,

1 GHz NOW AVAILALBLE
New AMD Systems from DATEL

...I think that says people were asking for GHz Athlons. It says something about the poor price/performance ratio of Intel processors and the continuing loss of market share that Intel will experience.
