<UAW members bargained for and received Tuesday 11-7 as a paid day off.>
**************
Flapjack,

Why do UAW members need a non productive paid holiday in order to cast their vote. The rest of the nation seems to vote without the benefit of a paid day off. Most polls are open at least 12 hours, so time constraints are not a factor
Sounds like the rest of the country is subsidizing them as a potential vote transporter for the preferred voters. Rather expensive for the company... 130,000 members? @$150.00? avg.= $19,500,000.00. Plus how much does it cost to shut down the plant for a day? Rather expensive vote I'd say. JMHO

Michigan Teamster President Does Not Support Al Gore
and his Job Endangering Plans

Despite numerous attempts to pander to union organizations, Al Gore today lost the support of Michigan Teamsters Local 337 President Larry Brennan. Today, at a Victory 2000 rally in Dearborn, Brennan endorsed the GOP Presidential nominee, Governor George W. Bush.

"The Clinton-Gore administration has taken us for granted. And in return, we've just been taken. We've been taken by an Administration that says Washington knows best," said President Larry Brennan.

This bombshell announcement reinforces Michiganders concerns that Al Gore's policies may sink the Great Lake State's economy. Al Gore has proved he is out of touch with Michigan voters time and again. For example, his much-touted plan to do away with the combustion engine endangers jobs in the Motor City and beyond.

Al Gore demonizes the internal combustion engine and details his plans to eliminate it in his controversial book, "Earth in the Balance. "We now know that their cumulative impact on the global environment is posing a mortal threat to the security of every nation that is more deadly than that of any military enemy we are ever again likely to confront…Within the context of the SEI (Strategic Environment Initiative), it ought to be possible to establish a coordinated global program to accomplish the strategic goal of completely eliminating the internal combustion engine over, say, a twenty-five year period." (Al Gore, Earth in the Balance, 1993, pp. 325-326)

" It 'scares the bejesus out of people,' said one Gore backer, familiar with the rank-and-file." (Harry Stoffer, "Gore Learns It's Not Easy Being Green; Environmentalism Fizzles In Auto World," Automotive News, August 28, 2000)
