Hi, Mike. Any snow yet?

I leafed through Bradley's book at my bro-in-law's-- some odd details stuck with me. Like the "soil" of Iwo being something like particles of volcanic rock, in which the Marines could hardly dig foxholes for shelter.. the soil would just sift right back into their holes. And the Japanese had miles of tunnels dug under the island. In the middle of the night, Japanese snipers would pop up in the midst of the Marines, only to vanish before the Marines could return fire. A really hellish island.
