Zaffire and Kanematsu Strike Strategic Partnership to Supply Advanced Optical
Networking Solutions in Japan

BUSINESSWIRE
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2000--

Partnership Adds Leading Metro and Regional Optical
Solutions to Kanematsu Product Line

Zaffire, Inc., a leading provider of optical networking systems
for metropolitan and regional area networks, announced today that
telecommunications technology provider Kanematsu Corporation will be
the lead supplier of Zaffire's advanced optical networking solutions
in Japan. Tokyo-based Kanematsu, which will begin marketing Zaffire's
breakthrough dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) optical solutions
to Japanese telecommunications service providers this month, will also
provide comprehensive sales and technical support for the Zaffire
product line.
"We are pleased to work with Kanematsu, who will use Zaffire's
Z3000 optical service platform to facilitate the growth of new,
revenue-generating services in Japan," said Paul Yazge, Zaffire's vice
president of sales. "An increasing number of service providers are now
introducing new, Internet-based services in Japan. Zaffire's optical
networking products, coupled with Kanematsu's technical support
services, will enable these carriers to remove metro and regional
bandwidth bottlenecks in an efficient, cost-effective manner."
"Kanematsu is pleased to offer our customers the most advanced
metro and regional optical networking solutions available today," said
Yoshihiro Miwa, Kanematsu's Director, IT Division. "The optical
networking market in Japan is taking off right now. We are very
excited about working with Zaffire, and we expect Zaffire's business
here to grow significantly in the near future. While several other
vendors offer DWDM technologies, Zaffire's platform is ideal for metro
and regional applications, and it is highly scalable to meet the
changing needs of our service providers."
"Asia represents a tremendous growth opportunity for optical
networking suppliers," said Matt Walker, director, RHK Asia-Pacific.
"With the continued growth of Internet services in Japan, service
providers are increasingly deploying DWDM technologies. With its
Kanematsu alliance, Zaffire has the opportunity to play a significant
role in Japan's looming optical marketplace."
The Zaffire Z3000(TM) Series optical service platform is the first
system optimized for the unique needs of metro and regional optical
network transport. Using its patent-pending DWDM optical services
platform, in conjunction with its ZOS(TM) cross-platform operating
system, and its Z-Manager(TM) network management system, Zaffire's
Z3000 combines robust software functionality with optical hardware
innovations. This new solution features advanced technology such as
digital wrapper and automated power balancing to help carriers solve
the problem of bandwidth capacity bottlenecks in the metro and
regional market - and intelligently manage the fiber optics links
between long-haul carriage and last-mile access.

i was notified by PM that another threadmate called the syndicate desk at bear stearns this morning and spoke with a different person than i spoke with friday afternoon...

this person at Bear Stearns was more cautious with regard to the timing of preliminary approval from the sec(perhaps she was simply being more careful..??) and left open the potential ipo date...though i have verified that it is listed as december on their deal calender though still not final until we hear from the sec...

i am eandeavouring to get more information on the matter...
