As long as it didn't cause you any grief. I don't need a guilty conscience. :-)

hi gottfried

"the tip on regclean. I felt brave and downloaded and ran it"

are you aware that norton systemworks via cleansweep has a number of powerful registry tools, such as registry sweep, and also such tools as duplicate file finder, redundant dll finder and orphan file finder? i use these components frequently to keep windows tuned sharp.

norton utilities, under improve performance, also has an optimization wizard that is mainly a registry file optimizer that reorganizes windows registry data for efficient storage and performs swap file optimization (sets an efficient minimum swap file size) at the same time.

"My PC runs OK, so I cannot tell whether anything was cleaned up"

all of the work performed in cleansweep's registry sweep is viewable to the user and presented in an understandable format, with options to either proceed with cleaning or cancel. all of the redundant dll files and orphan files are listed and can be highlighted and more details selected for each, along with recommendations on what to do with the flagged file.

just another effective tool in the toolbox

:)

mark
