via the Kobi-Baker board (thought i'd get more hits here):

>Don't sell this guy any stock. Make him pay up cuz I want a 52-week high. Scroll down to the bottom of the article if you are pressed for time.

thestreet.com;

i'll admit, i like the way this guy thinks -- and thank HeyZeus he got out of PBHG, although i gather not without a noncompete pissing contest.

then again, i may be partial to him cuz of my similar holdings.

fwiw, can i bring up a couple omissions?

on BEAS, that wasn't very sporty of him to omit ARTG (who knows, maybe it's on the one he's building a position in). i recently saw some 1999 app-server "internet middleware" figs that showed BEAS with 32% market share, IBM at 16% and Sybase(!) 15%. for 2000, estimate is BEAS and IBM with 24% each, followed by ARTG with 10% (and Sybase somewheres in the single digits).

re: CIEN, it's technically true that they have yet to do any vendor financing (although according to the CFO, they are definitely considering it, particularly in the latin american market), but really, what's the diff when when one your customers, Iaxis, files for "administration" -- eurospeak for chapter 11 -- and sticks you with a $28M bar bill?

>I think I saw Mr. Mandl pacing up and down Park Ave with a tin cup this morning.

was he carrying a sign that said:

Notafraidof120%dilutionAM ... ?

that "equity" deal has got to be one of the lousiest in recent memory. i don't know Rose Glen, but those guys are either Einsteins or from Brighton Beach. serves me right for knocking the tin-cup strategy as it finally paid off for Mandl. shit, worked for A-Rod too. both got $250 mil.

wait a sec! think Tom Hicks sent the check to the wrong Alex?

(Hicks, Muse once ponied up $200 mil for a 5% stake in uninTGNT [worth about $9 mil today])
