RE:" The new immigrants like Hatians and latinos do not usually have the vote."

Many Cubans are second, third generation not "new". Castro's gov. been around since 1960. Typically the Cuban population votes Republican...the first Cubans to come were very business oriented.
Latins in general vote about 50-50....Bush does very well with this group. Especially in Texas.
Jeb Bushs wife, Columba is of Mexican extraction and his son, is a teacher in Dade county (Miami) so it's very hard to pin any ethnic negativity on the Bushes, although the Dems would love to "divide and conquer".

The Haitian community is growing very rapidly in SO FL., (reported up to 1 million) much of it is illegal inmigration. Not too many nights go by when there isn't a report of a group making the run from the Bahamas to a So. FL. beach. No one knows how many make it in un-noticed.
Mind you, this is not the "rafting" you see on the news but is very sophisticated speed boat pick up where they communicate by telephone/cellphones from the Bahamas and have friends/relatives waiting in cars for the pick up.
Typically, many Hatians move their way up through the Bahamas, working, saving money, waiting for the run for the Florida coast.

Now, mix in a lot of inmigration from liberal "high tax states" like NY, where people sell their house for a lot and move to FL, a low tax state, where they can get a better house and pocket some money...and you'll begin to get the idea.

On the West coast of FL, they get more of a midwest influence. Likely more conservative but I suspect a lot of Union members have made the move in recent years and they typically vote democrat.

So again what is contributing to the sudden liberal bent in FLA...wasn't Bush reelected just 2 years ago?

I've only been to FLA once so I don't claim to be an expert, but I've read that younger Cubans are less conservative/Republican then there parents and grandparents. Also there are more non-Cuban hispanics in FLA then in the past and they tend to vote for democrats. Also Gore's trying to scare seniors about social security and medicare might be working.
