but everyone sees the buy signal as it is being formed, thus they buy in anticipation more and more such that when the buy signal actually forms, most buyers are in already...as the last ones to the game realize they are always late they will buy earlier, and so on. Anyway, this stuff worked in a runaway bull mania, which still exists for a few stocks.

I was focusing more on patterns like the well known candlestick ones or h&s, inverse h&s, double, triple tops, etc. Obviously we still have someone buying/selling all the long term trendlines in the indexes and many securities, but when busboys and parking attendants start recognizing and buying inverse head and shoulders...well who hasn't gotten in ahead of them already?
