Evening E.
I don't think that one should reject something simply because it seems too easy, many things are simple. What is important is whether or not it's true. Your analogy seems to beg this question. I would agree that stuffing things in closets only makes things appear to be neat and tidy, but really they are not. If tidy = true, then it only appears to be true when in fact it is false, but that's what we are trying to determine. It seems to me that the analogy falls down on another level as well. If it turns out to be true that there is in fact a personal designer then all that stuff in the closet is going to have to come out, and that makes things messy not neat. So instead of "Oh, good, everything's all neat now!" it's more like "Oh, no what do we do now?". When the Prophet Isaiah saw the designer he fell down and said "woe is me, I am undone"(for I am a man with a very messy closet). It is often said that people have a psychological need for God, and there is surely some truth to that, but is it not also true that there is perhaps an even stronger psychological aversion to God as well? So in conclusion I would say that far from being an easy and pat answer to our existence, the idea that there is in fact a designer poses many more questions than it answers. For instance what is this designer like and what demands, if any, does he place on us? That's just for starters. I'll be interested to here your response but it will have to wait till morning.
Good night
Greg
