john, I believe that most homes will have at one primary pc. The other internet devices will either be older pc's running over dsl or internet devices. This where who are mistaken john, microsoft is a os developer for pc's and that work on the internet. orcl is a database maker for the internet. SUNW is a server and storage company for the internet. CSCO is a router company for the internet. emc is a storage supplier for the internet. Each will dominate their position and some technologies are more important than others. To me, the pc is the weakest link because it can be taken down by alternative internet devices and thus is not a infrastructure consideration. The database, server, router and storage are key infrastructure plays. Thats why i have invested in these other companies and not MSFT at the present.

These zebras will not change their stripes even though each company will encroach upon each others turf at some point in time. For instance, MSFT is encroaching upons sunw's server turf. Time will tell their success but, to date, it has not been that good. Even worse in the database area with orcl projected to take marketshare away from both msft and ibm.

msft is a great company but their glory days are over. whether they can remake themselves to become a b-b or whatever for the internet is yet to be seen. in the past, most companies have not been successfull with the remake. imo, msft is priced about right now and some of the other key infrastructure plays are a bit to high. But thats what you get by being primary.

Bob.
