Mike Huckabee called his own state a "Banana Republic" when it comes to elections and suggested Democratic election officials might try to steal victory from Republican George W. Bush. Angry Democrats accused the governor of trashing his own state Monday on the "Imus in the Morning" program, which is broadcast from New York and syndicated nationally. Asked by host Don Imus if Bush would win Arkansas, Huckabee said the Republican would get the most votes. "Now whether it'll count up that way ... . Our biggest concern is ballot fraud. It's like the Banana Republic of Arkansas in an election," Huckabee said, referring to questions about some Arkansas counties that allowed early voting on weekends. nj.com
