Toy, the biometric providers are set up for doing the match off-client, so you aren't branding your computer with one fingerprint. Anyone on the network can get his claimed ID checked against a file in a bank of templates on a server.

That will be the most common solution. You can architect others, of course, and one day we may be carrying around biometrically-protected smart cards. They probably would have the highest degree of security, with the reference template encoded on the card, acting as a lock for information and value that only your finger can open.
