Actually I think the ballot counting is much quicker with the vote by mail since the ones that arrive prior to election day can be verified and prepped for counting. Once the election closes they don't have to drive them to a counting center - they just start loading the machines. IIRC, last election the initial returns provided significant results since they a large number of votes were rapidly tallied.

ps: I will drop off my "mail-in" ballot since I didn't make decisions on all of the 20+ ballot measures yet.

Last week, our Secretary of the State was on the radio announcing that contrary to e-mails the entire election would be held on the 7th. LOL!
