No ... it's not needed. It's just a *great* way to get a bunch of suckers to hand you their IP address! And they even give you a bunch of information about their machine too! ;-)

Yep ... which is why you first find a host that you can penetrate to then use at your "base of operations" ... you launch attacks and scans from compromised machines ... one or two levels away via indirection.
