You may have been cheering yourself up, but you also cheered me up! It is amazing how it always becomes darkest before the dawn (would have said "before the sun rises," but just didn't have the nerve). Thanks for the rays of light!

Technocrat,

Always appreciate your posts/thoughts. Wondered what you thought of hiho's post (from Yahoo) in regards to McData's new switch--

messages.yahoo.com

<< It's not a revolutionary development, it's late to market, no new "killer" features, and making the pricing public nukes MCDT's attempts to OEM the switch. Why would the pricing be shown at all if the product was going to be sold through OEM's, who set their own pricing, discount, and bundling plans? When they post a price like that before the product is released, then attempt to sell through OEM's, you force the OEM deals to be done at very low gross margins. This is exactly what I meant when interpreting MCDT's 40% Y-Y revenue growth guidance for 2001. MCDT is late to the market, and will have to compromise gross margins and/or pricing to try to broach the OEM market. Long term impact of this decision makes it difficult to generate enough cash flow from the product to fund future, more revolutionary, developments. >>

thanks,
