Engel, The 1.4 and 1.5 GHz Pentium 4's are 2 higher margin products - and one of them apparently has already been "introduced".

Paul

Haven't you heard Paul. They may be available but they aren't exactly flying off the shelves. yahoo.cnet.com.

An excerpt:

"The supply is pretty good," added a sales representative at 1st Class Technology, which is selling the 1.5-GHz chip for $1,125, not including shipping. "It came out about two weeks ago." But because of the lack of motherboards, 1st Class hasn't sold a single chip yet.

Looks like those infrastructure problems you keep complaining about with AMD may be worse at good ole Intel. Got it. No motherboards to be found. I'm sure the motherboard shortage is only temporary, or maybe no one is buying the P4 because of those ridiculous prices.

And it is good to see Intel return to the product launches of old. The only problem is that the numbers sold are going to be gated by the amount of DRDRAM available. In addition, it will have to compete with it's own i820 and i840 platforms for that memory. Gotta get to Brookdale...

we know for sure that it would have higher cost and higher asps but, unless you have some insiders info, it is not clear if the margins would be higher. Of course, from intels own words one might conclude that intel would transfer the cost of p4 to other products - free production because of the fixed cost. <ggg>
