District Attorney Also Reviewing Situation
MILWAUKEE, Updated 11:02 p.m. EST November 6, 2000 -- The Milwaukee County District Attorney is reviewing allegations that Wisconsin election law was violated after Milwaukee's WISN 12 News found Democratic campaigners giving cigarettes to absentee voters outside of City Hall Saturday.

Republican Wisconsin state Rep. Scott Walker went to the district attorney Monday morning. The violation would be a felony.

In the meantime, Rodman Hise, executive director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, filed a formal complaint with the state Elections Board. This is part of what the complaint said:

Upon information and belief, agents of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, acting on behalf of the Gore-Lieberman presidential campaign, distributed packages of cigarettes to voters whom they had transported to vote by absentee ballot, contrary to Wis. Stats.s.12.11(1m), which prohibits election bribery. Upon information and belief, such activities may also violate portion of Wis. Stats.s.12.13 prohibiting election fraud
