TSO:

Isn't there an old saw about post-election gains that we can hang our hopes on?

Yes but I believe that it is based on the obviously flawed premise that an election actually ends... ;-)

As I type this, it is being reported that, in one Florida County the recount is being recounted.

Intending no offence to any U.S. citizen, it seems to me that it would make some sense to reach into the past (about 200 years, I think) and resurrect the practice of making the presidential runner-up Vice President. It would not, of course, make Messrs. Cheney or Lieberman too happy but might provide a workable solution to the problem of leaving half (or more) of the electorate feeling disenfranchised.

I already have my alternative to high-yield, closed end bond funds--namely those oil and gas royalty trusts that I have mentioned from time to time. Currently they are yielding in the range of 20-30%...reflective of the 'discount' at which they are still trading.

Regards,
Wolf
