You said the hate crimes bill is about Bush? Huh? Bush and Texas have expressed the ultimate outrage for this crime. The death sentence. Actually, two death sentences. And one life in prison. Don't try to minimize the death sentence. It's the ultimate. The max. The most our society allows. Do you want "death plus"? Please explain how the outcome would be different if there had been an additional charge of "hate," as if the charges, conviction, and resulting death sentences didn't already reflect that? Since you raised the tv ad, I thought it was disgusting and deceptive. Anyone should agree.

Oh, so if Bush had paid lip service to a special interest, rather than standing up for the consistutional rights of all Texans- black, white or brown, that would be what you want? It's funny how Dems accuse the Republicans of drawing race lines. Isn't a hate crimes bill all about drawing lines between Americans???

What is a stronger punishment that society can deal out other than the death penalty?

Get real!

Hate crimes bill is a liberal feel good ploy. Equal justice should apply regardless of the race of the victim. I think the death penalty is what the perpetrators deserved and two got. I am not familiar enough to say why the 3rd received life.knc

Goes to show how little you really know. Bush was very outraged with what happened to Byrd, and contrary to what you might think, there will be no clemency for those on death row. Bush believes in justice for all, and sees no need to address hate crimes when we already have laws on the books (in Texas) that deal appropriately with crimes against all Texans.
