Compaq strands Transmeta

By John Spooner ZDNet News

Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE: CPQ) is the latest large computer manufacturer to pass over Transmeta Corp.'s Crusoe processor -- at least for now.
ZDNet News sources confirm reports that the Houston, Texas PC maker has passed on Crusoe in favor of forthcoming low-power Pentium III chips from Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC). Compaq officials weren't immediately available for comment.
