Gore succeeded in confusing people on the voucher issue, and also did a very good job with Social Security. He was less successful on the tax break for the wealthiest 1% (did you notice how the income cut-off for the top 1% kept getting higher over the last few weeks, until it finally reached $1,000,000 during the last few days of the campaign?).

Largely by not talking about the poor, he succeeded in letting them continue to think the Democrats are the party that cares most about them -- even though both Time and Newsweek correctly pointed out that Bush actually helps the poor more.
