<<I have a Garand as well. Like JFQ says the clips are not exactly user friendly. >>

I haven't had any problem loading mine. I kind of like the little zing of the stripper clip flying out.

If you think on it, those stripper clips were a good idea. Cheap to make and the working parts of the magazine stayed with the gun. No need to haul around empty magazines.

theloof, The bolt lever on the M1 Garand is slightly curved, and when inserting a full clip, the heel of your right hand should be in this curve, keeping backward pressure on the bolt. Then after pushing the clip home, and you have removed your thumb from that peril, you can just lift your hand upward, and the bolt will slam a round into the chamber, and you are ready to fire. An experienced rifleman could do this procedure must faster than someone replacing a bottom loading magazine. And, I am like Ish. I loved the zinging sound as that empty clip went flying through the air.

Without the bayonet being mounted, that weapon weighed 9.5 lbs. which doesn't sound very heavy but, one form of punishment was to hold the rifle in one hand, at arms length away from the body. That 9.5 lbs. got very heavy in a short period of time. ~H~
