I can assure you that what I'd define as luxury and what the owner of my company's wife would define as luxury are two different things. There are millions of products and services in the US alone. Who chooses?

I hate to break it to you, but corporations can't vote...

But they can and do contribute big hard and soft dollars which go into Republican campaigns and are used to "buy" votes. The Republican equivalent to entitlement and “give-a-way” is "Read my lips. No new taxes." Ooops. (Bush welched on that one didn't he.) Not entirely dissimilar to your Democratic Party example.

By the way...corporations should not be taxed. Why you ask, because in the end we the people pay those taxes in the form of higher prices. So in fact any tax on a corporation is in reality a tax on individuals.

It is a suppostion on your part that the elimination of corporte income tax will result in lower prices to anyone. But, I can guarantee you the difference will go into the pockets of corporate offices and majority shareholders somehow. Who was it that said, "Think like a criminal?"

<ggg>

All income and property taxes should be abolished. Federal, state, county and local governing bodies should derive their operating monies via sales taxes. Of course certain items of necessity should be tax-free. This is the only fair way to tax. All that live in this land should help pay for the privilege no matter how poor.

Those that are poor can direct their monies toward those necessities that are tax-free, thus keeping their taxes low. Those that are well off or rich that make decisions to buy luxury items would do so knowing they will pay taxes on those items.

Trust me. Income taxes are not a current problem for the poor. Whip out a 1040 and complete it for a single person making about 12k a year. Do another for a family of 3 or 4 making 24k a year. Choose not to give them EIC if they qualify. What do you see?

Sales taxes on food, clothing and medicine are a problem though. Would those necessities be exempt under your system? They might then catch a break then.

Overall I think your sales tax plan would not produce enough revenue and take the country into one hell of a consumer driven recession. And some of those very same corporations that got the tax breaks would be making up the difference in reduced sales with higher prices. But that is a suppostion on my part.
