MB, here in American you are responsible for finding some time within 6:30 am and 7:30 pm to vote, if you can't do it on election day, you should have gotten an absentee ballot. Personal responsibility. That's why our's is the greatest country in the world.

Just looking in for a moment. You make good points. If a day to vote would be seen as welfare, all national holidays should logically be seen in the same light. Next to Independence Day, what other day could be more important. Rather than a day to sit around or party because it was somebody's birthday, it would be a day dedicated to showing our continued love of our country and independence. Swapping a presidant's birthday to select a new one is excellent.

The latest word I've heard is that turnout is heavy. If it continues, that is very good for America. I'm excited about it.
