TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2000 4:51:00 PM EST SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov 7, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Gadzoox Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: ZOOX) today announced that it will be the first to demonstrate 2 Gigabit (Gb) Open Fabric switch technology at Fall Comdex in Las Vegas, November 13-17, 2000. Gadzoox Networks, joined by other industry leaders, is driving the necessary technology advances in the market to bring performance and interoperability to storage networking. By offering intelligent storage networking products and solutions, Gadzoox Networks' mission is to free companies from the increasing challenges of managing business- and mission-critical data.
The demands on networks and systems for moving and managing data are increasing exponentially, and improvements in performance across the infrastructure are required to enable customers to move and manage their data efficiently and reliably. The introduction of 2Gb switch speeds for storage enables customers to realize and leverage the increasing speed and bandwidth capabilities across their entire network.
"With storage-intensive applications like data warehousing and e-commerce becoming more and more business critical, storage consumption has risen to new heights," said Eric Sheppard, a research analyst with IDC. "In fact," added Sheppard, "shipments of worldwide storage systems terabytes will grow approximately 80% compounded annually from 1999 through 2003."
"The 2Gb open fabric technology achieves a new level of performance required by our customers and finally delivers on the storage networking promise of high-performance, interoperable Storage Area Network (SAN) fabric solutions," said Wayne Rickard, chief technology officer, Gadzoox Networks. "With this new switching technology, customers can be confident that they are getting the latest in performance and standards-compliant interoperability. Additionally, customers can connect existing 1Gb products with our 2Gb technology and, through standards-based auto negotiation, extend their current SAN installations, not replace them. Not only does this technology provide a clear path for the industry, but also holds great promise for new and revolutionary products."
The 2Gb technology demonstration is based on the new FC-SW-2 "Open Fabric" standard, which establishes a new foundation for building interoperable, multi-vendor switch fabrics. Technology leaders such as Gadzoox Networks, Agilent, Compaq Computer Corporation, Emulex, JNI, QLogic and Veritas are driving development of 2Gb technology, which not only promises to solve growing performance requirements, but also enables intelligent and interoperable products.
Agilent -- "As the first vendor to ship a 2Gb PCI-to-Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBA), Agilent is pleased to be working with Gadzoox as they drive high performance, interoperable 2Gb Fibre Channel switch technology," said Bob Whitson, worldwide marketing manager for Agilent's Storage Networking Division. "With these new products from Gadzoox, the 2Gb infrastructure is now falling into place."
Emulex -- "As the largest supplier of Fibre Channel host adapters, Emulex is the obvious choice for joint interoperability testing to ensure rapid deployment of Gadzoox Networks 2Gb Fibre Channel technology," said Mike Smith, vice president of Worldwide Marketing at Emulex. "We are pleased Gadzoox Networks is demonstrating technology leadership by bringing 2Gb speed to Fibre Channel switches."
JNI -- "As the first company to develop a 1st and 2nd generation 2Gb Fibre Channel HBA, we understand the need for a 2Gb switch", said Scott Ruple, senior vice president, Business Development, JNI. "We are pleased to work with Gadzoox in its development of 2Gb switch technology."
QLogic -- "As one of the first vendors to bring a 2Gb Fibre Channel host bus adapters to market with our QLA2300 Series, QLogic expects that advanced SAN installations featuring 2 gigabit per second performance will become prevalent as customers seek to keep pace with increasingly complex data requirements," said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Computer Systems Group. "We continue our important relationship with Gadzoox to maintain interoperability between QLogic host bus adapters and Gadzoox Fibre Channel switches."
VERITAS -- "VERITAS Software is clearly focused on providing state of the art data protection solutions to its extensive customer base," said John Maxwell, senior director, Data Protection Product Group, VERITAS Software. "Gadzoox Networks' new 2Gb technology will allow our mutual end users to move data with consistent speed and accuracy in SAN environments."
