And I went at an off hour the first time I voted, about 10:30. There were at least 40 people ahead of me in line, though there were plenty of booths and it only took about 10 minutes waiting. However, I suspect the folks who go after work found it much more crowded and the wait even longer. Maybe nobody votes because the govt. makes it as much of a pain in the patootie as possible. True, it isn't the same as wintering at Valley Forge or chasing Robert E. Lee through to wilderness to protect our franchise, but modern man is not made of the same stuff as our forefathers. Anyway, this is the first time the Presidential race was not projected at 6 p.m., so it is moderately interesting. In Texas, it wasn't very interesting. The winner was the guvner. And Kay Bailey won the senate again over dance man, Gene Kelley. <g> The arena vote and the olympics vote both look like they're going to pass, though I doubt that the Olympics will be around by 2012. The drug busts and the favoritism shown "marketable" athletes and the commercialism have turned off too many folks, IMHO. It started on this slippery slope back when Howard Cossell and ABC decided to crappify the games with their "Up Close and Personal" garbage. Since then, there has been a continued effort to cut athletic coverage and emphasize non-sport sports. Supposedly, this has been done to attract female viewers, though the female viewers I know aren't that stupid. Anyway, happy election day. I sold all my bootleg booze during polling hours at treble prices. Ah, drunks are dumb. If they'd known that the liquor stores would be closed, they wouldn't need to come to the Burke Pusher'sPlace. <g>
