John - Re: "I think Intel was targeting 3rd quarter for P3 on .13 (?). Would this press release give you confidence in that schedule, or maybe sooner?"

Intel had stated as much - over the past several months.

However, it appears that the P860 process (0.13 micron/6 layer copper) has come together in a real solid way, and Intel has functional first silicon on Tualatin (Pentium II with 512K L2 cache + other possible design improvements).

In related articles today, Intel "spokepeople" are talking about a Q1 production start with Mobile Pentium III's (Tualatins) of 933 and 1 GHz coming in Q2 2001.

That would put the P860 process (0.13 micron/6 layer copper) about one quarter ahead of where Intel had been projecting its ramp.

Re: "And didn't the AMD folks say that Intel would have lot's of problems going to .13 and copper at the same time?"

Oh you BET they DID !

And they also said Intel would screw up every product and process launch from here to eternity.

And they also said AMD would be kicking Intel's a$$ in servers in Q4 of 2000 - which is now !

And they also said AMD would hit $150 ($75 post split) by the end of this year.
