Microsoft's Stinger phone receives VoiceStream support

Samsung Telecommunications America Inc. and VoiceStream Wireless Corp. announced on Tuesday an agreement to develop GPRS phones that support Microsoft Corp.'s (Nasdaq: MSFT) smart phone platform, code-named Stinger, and the Microsoft Mobile Explorer microbrowser technology. VoiceStream (Nasdaq: VSTR) is the first U.S. carrier to publicly announce it will deploy phones in support of both platforms. The announcement is a multi-year, multi-product commitment to launch various Samsung (Nasdaq: SSNHY) handsets. VoiceStream's nationwide introduction of its GPRS network is due in 2001. -- Richard Shim, ZDNet News

Here's a good one. The news has been trumpeting the drop in DRAM prices as a sign of doom and gloom. However, they fail to note that 64M DRAM has been superseded by 128/256M DRAM!

Indeed, most of the entries in the Micron Tech memory sheet are for 128/256M (see below). Why then is everyone talking about the price on the outdated 64M chip?

Maybe Goldman Sachs isn't as stupid as everyone else--they upgraded Micron today.

[Newest product list from Micron. Notice, most entries now for 128/256M chips, not 64M]
