Not in low-light conditions, it isnt. As a hobby I routinely take professional pictures at music concerts, most of which take place at night with weird stage lighting. I have to use at least 800 ISO film, with a 15lb gigantic high aperature lens, to capture the images. I've tried every outrageously expensive digital camera under the sun, and none of them even come close to having the sensitivity needed to capture the action. Not even close.

That will probably change in a few years, however.

can be done on non-Mac platforms

Where you been guy....been doing my work on NT boxes for years. Ones I built myself. I have one of those toys (Macs)in the studio just so I can check the files I send out to my baby Mac users because they are forever screwing up the desktop files on their zips and jaz disks and I have to rebuild their desktops for them.
