In flagrant disregard for investor information, the "1 billion" in cash and marketable securities has yet to be broken down in any quarterly statement. If it turns out that a majority of that "cash" is actually stock in worthless dot.coms, then amazon will have to return to the debt market and beg on their knees very soon.

Pretty darn wobbly if you ask me.

Randy,

I know we have beat this to death but let's visit the current situation. The ACN is no longer an issue one way or another.

Distribution costs in the US are close to fixed except the variable labor issue. This is not the case in Europe and Japan. What do you believe it will take for Amazon to move towards profitability? I know Blodget stated last quarter was an inflection point. The fact is losses are continueing to increase. Losses are a smaller percentage of revenue but revenue is increasing so the denominator is larger. Do you believe the equity markets will have enough faith to give Amazon more money next spring? That is really the issue presently. The need for cash next spring is a sure thing. That I believe I can prove so there is the issue. Amazon has always amazed me how they were able to obtain more funds. I am not underestimating their ability in doing that. It seems market sentiment along those lines is not as good.

Thoughts?

Glenn
